NYU Langone is building a comprehensive data ecosystem that empowers departments and institutes to nurture data-centric research supported by cutting-edge technology, strong governance, and vibrant multi-disciplinary communities. At its heart is the data hub program, whereby MCIT partners with individual academic departments to harness scientific and technical personnel, rich data sets and end user applications to support a broad set of research specific to that department.

Position Summary:

Responsible for informatics strategy and oversight of the implementation of the mission of the PCC DataHub to inspire and support cancer research, to innovate in the field of cancer informatics, and to educate cancer researchers with the goal of minimizing cancer burden on the population and improving the lives of individuals with cancer. The Oncology Informatics Director will interact with cancer center, medical center, health system administration, and Medical Center IT (MCIT) to oversee the data and analytics practice, to promote system integration and to leverage artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in data science to advance the goals of the PCC DataHub. The Director will report to Perlmutter Cancer Center (School of Medicine) leadership and MCIT leadership.

Job Responsibilities

Operational

* With executive roles: development of informatics strategy and roadmap for the PCC DataHub

* With executive roles: establishing and tracking metrics of performance for the PCC DataHub

* Resource allocation, hiring/personnel

* Participation in and leadership within enterprise-wide governing bodies applicable to research data structures

* Development of partnerships with other data hubs and ancillary services across the enterprise

Support of cancer research

* With clinical leads: establishing and prioritizing research and quality projects and areas of development

* Acting as a liaison between cancer researchers, MCIT, the Enterprise Data Ecosystem, and national and international bio-medical informatics resources as well as other hubs of Health Informatics within NYU Langone Health

* Provisioning (integration, harmonization, contextualization) of quality data for support of research objectives

* Provisioning of analytic, epidemiologic, and data science services to support research

* Ensuring IRB compliance

* Support of publications, grant applications, and other research activities

* Enabling and facilitating multi-institutional network studies

Innovation

* Development and adoption of new technologies to streamline access to data and analytic services

* Increase the value of clinical cancer data with the application of advanced analytics (e.g., NLP, GPT)

* Application of novel methodologies to improve reproducibility of research insights obtained from Real World Data

* Development of partnerships with NYU analytic services and external collaborators

* Development a collaborative connection with the MCIT Department of Health Informatics

Informatics research

* Contributing to collective knowledge and research within and outside the institution in cancer informatics including cancer informatics standards, methods, and open-source software

* Seeking extramural funding for the PCC DataHub initiated projects

* Collaboration with CTSI, non-cancer NYU informatics groups, and other institution on informatics grants

* Making results visible in publications, at conferences, and other forums

Education

* Developing and implementing training programs for cancer researchers and analytical staff on the use and interpretation of data and other informatics areas

* In collaboration with the Grossman School of Medicine, developing formal training coursework leading to accredited certificates or degrees

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in a STEM field. Leadership experience with 10 years in medical informatics in academic, hospital, or industry settings. Cancer domain expertise. Personal record of achievements (e.g. publications, patents, collaborations) in the field of medical informatics.
