Join us as a Senior Construction Manager and become a key player in the inception of our innovative solar business, Atlas. This role is pivotal in redefining the future of solar construction and accelerating solar deployment. In this role, you will lead construction operations for Atlas, a groundbreaking venture that integrates AI-enabled solar module installation robots developed by AES and its industry partners. You will utilize your technical expertise in utility-scale solar construction to secure opportunities, advance and oversee project execution of solar robotics installation teams.

The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial, mission-driven individual with a strong technical understanding of solar construction processes and solar designs, requirements, BOP and critical parts. You will work collaboratively with teams across various domains, including engineering, business development, construction, finance, M&A, supply chain, and strategy.

Major Responsibilities

  • Responsible for oversight of day-to-day construction activities and the successful execution of a single or multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Govern project safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, field supervisors, suppliers, proposals, and estimates for active and upcoming project pipeline.
  • Coordinate construction install teams, technician staff, and project support teams in addition to partners and third-party companies across project development, engineering, and construction.
  • Refine and implement guidelines for project execution plan, construction execution plan, construction quality assurance plan, safety & health plan, subcontracting plan, project staffing plan, organization chart, and procurement plan.
  • Negotiate and secure future solar projects to continue to validate technology.
  • Build and evolve field training program to incorporate new & developing equipment/methods.
  • Organize project logistics and advance materials receiving and management processes, including inventory control, receipt of goods, storage and transportation required for projects.
  • Review construction field reports and provide critical feedback to operations, engineering, and development teams.
  • Provide constant communication with the project stakeholders about progress and conflict management.
  • Travel to active jobsites to ensure successful operations and to perform inspections, tests, and field audits.
  • Validate commercial deployment of Atlas business model and system on utility-scale solar projects.
  • Maintain tracking of current industry/regional labor rates and equipment costs.
  • Identify and track key solar PV modules installation metrics for tier 1 solar tracker vendors.
  • Work across Atlas and AES leadership teams to build excitement and confidence around Atlas vision and objectives, and secure direct and indirect resources.
  • Prepare business to meet the necessary milestones to embark on larger scale deployments.
  • Foster relationships and work collaboratively with AES businesses and platform units in the US, Americas and Eurasia related to the use of this technology in their region.
  • Support periodic project updates and reporting to senior managers through preparation of project status and budget reports.

Qualifications

  • Founder's mentality: Entrepreneurial passion for getting things done and a "make it happen" attitude with an intellectual curiosity to seek new opportunities. Ability to plan and see the "big picture".
  • Experience: 10+ years of work experience with at least 5 years working in the solar construction industry at the utility scale. Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Expertise: Deep familiarity with utility scale solar field construction and solar project development. Complete mechanical understanding of single-axis tracker systems and comprehensive grasp of PV module and racking system installation process.
  • Skill and Behavior: Capability to work dynamically and collaboratively across multiple teams in a technical business environment with minimal supervision. Excellent communication skills. Comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity; no compromise on attention to quality and details.
  • Customer empathy: Strong capability to ideate new solutions and understand customer needs, while driving new products and solutions to market.
  • Technology fluency: Demonstrated ability to understand solar engineering and technology concepts, question assumptions, and make informed product and technology decisions. Comfortable with O365 and virtual meetings. Technical understanding of construction heavy machinery is a plus.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $0 and $0/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
